Spotify Stations Will Shut Down This Month

Popular streaming service Spotify will close one of its services this month, Spotify Stations.

This has also been conveyed by Spotify via email to several users where Spotify Stations for both mobile and web will be closed on May 16, 2022.

"We'd like to thank you for being a user of Spotify Stations, the beta app we've been testing. We've decided not to extend the rollout of this experience and we'd like to inform you that starting May 16, 2022, the Stations app and web player will no longer be available. " wrote Spotify's statement as quoted by us from 9to5google, Sunday (8/5/2022).

Spotify Stations was originally only launched in Australia in 2018 which is still in beta until now. A year later this application expanded to other areas for Android and iOS users.

"We regularly conduct a number of experiments to create a better listening experience for our users. Some of those tests ultimately pave the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as important lessons." wrote Spotify's statement.

"Our Spotify Stations Beta is one of those tests. We will be discontinuing the feature for now, but users will be able to easily transfer their favorite stations and enjoy a similar radio experience right within the Spotify app."

Spotify Stations itself offers a radio-like experience. Here, users no longer need to search for songs or compose their own playlists. Users can see a list of radio stations, which will automatically play songs.

This radio station list will play automatically and the user can scroll to another station at any time. It's not clear why Spotify turned off the service, but on the Spotify website it says the radio station has never been lost and can be heard on the regular app.

The Spotify Stations app is no longer available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. However, users who have already installed it can still use the service.
