Robot technology is used in New York to solve the problem of seniors who are lonely because of living alone. The ElliQ robot developed by the firm Intuition Robotic is equipped with artificial intelligence that allows it to conduct conversations with seniors at home.
In addition it tracks their health, provides nutritional recommendations, encourages them to exercise and a reminder to take medication when needed. Senior citizens are also encouraged to contact their families to say hello so that their health is always monitored before it is too late.
A total of 800 ElliQs will be given to eligible seniors by the New York Office on Aging (NYSOFA) as the epidemic of loneliness contributes to mental, health problems and unnoticed death until it’s too late.
