Did you know that the origin of the iPhone is actually an iPod with phone functions? Steve Jobs ’original idea was to have an iPod that had a phone in it. The idea started to come out after the failure to integrate iTune on the Motorola ROKR1.
Steve wanted the iPod design to be maintained because of the popularity of using the Click Wheel. Tony Fadell who was the father of the iPod and among the individuals involved with the development of the first iPhone, hired an outside designer to come up with the initial prototype of the iPhone - the iPod Phone. Tony who just published the book Build his story with Apple and his experience with Nest. Tony has revealed images of the first iPhone prototype and it’s not what you might expect.
It comes in the form of an iPod, there is a small screen at the top, a click wheel at the bottom and the body part here can rotate to reveal the keypad. Behind the screen there is a main camera. Yet this strange design is difficult to use and accept, due to the use of a click wheel that is not suitable for a phone.
For that, the Apple team chose to use a large -sized screen with a design with almost no physical buttons because all the controls are on the touch screen. The operating system was also modified from Mac OS X. With this effort and relentlessness, Apple was able to produce the iPhone and generation after generation - it is now one of the essential and mandatory products for all to own.
What was your first phone, was it an iPhone?
