The Corona pandemic is beginning to get under control. Many employees who were originally work from home or WFO began to return to work in the office. But not for Airbnb employees, the technology giant in the field of online accommodation.
Airbnb has announced plans that its employees can live and work wherever they like. This is different from other technology companies such as Google, Apple or Facebook which are starting to require WFO employees although not every day.
Interestingly, Brian Chesky as one of the founders and CEO of Airbnb ensures that employees' income or salary will not be affected the same as before, wherever they choose to work.
But there are restrictions and there are some countries that can not make employees work. Chesky did not explain the reasons in detail.
"You have the flexibility to live and work in 170 countries up to 90 days a year in any location," he said, as quoted by CNBC.
Chesky also said employees still need a permanent address for tax and salary needs from Airbnb. He said this step is expected to be followed by other companies.
"Most companies don't do this because of the complexity of taxes, salaries and time zones. But I hope I can provide a solution so that other companies can offer this kind of thing as well," Chesky said.
He stressed that there are times when employees have to meet physically. "Most connections happen physically. Zooming in is great for maintaining relationships, but it's not the best way to deepen them. And some creative work is best done in the same space," the Airbnb boss added.
