Sheryl Sandberg, one of the most famous women in the tech world, resigns from the position of Chief Operating Officer of Meta after 14 years working there. He also praised the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.
Sheryl is Zuckerberg's confidant. Together, they raised Facebook, which was once a small technology company.
"When I first met Mark, I wasn't looking for a job, and I never predicted how meeting him would change my life," she wrote on Facebook.
Zuckerberg managed to convince Sheryl that people would love to be friends on social media. After many meetings and discussions, Zuckerberg offered him a position at Facebook.
It was 2008, Facebook was not big. Sheryl Sandberg often sat side by side with Zuckerberg in the office, strategizing, and eventually making Facebook giant.
"Sitting beside Mark for 14 years was an honor and a privilege for life. Mark was a genuine visionary and a caring leader. He sometimes said we grew up together and rightly so," he wrote.
"He was only 23 and I was 38 when we met, but together we have gone through massive ups and downs in running this company, as has his marriage to Priscilla, the tragedy of the miscarriage and the joy of having their child, the sudden loss of my husband Dave, my engagement and much more," he said.
"In the critical moments of my life, in the highs and lows, I never had to turn to Mark, because he was already there," Sheryl added.
Sheryl also said goodbye even though she was still on Meta's board of directors. "When I took this job in 2008, I hoped to be here for only 5 years. Now 14 years later, it's time for me to write the next chapter in my life," added Sheryl.
He stated that he would focus more on philanthropic activities, especially those related to women. Good luck, Sheryl Sandberg!
