Apple Sued For Toyol Patent For Unlocking System Using Apple Watch

Apple introduced the Mac unlock feature using the Apple Watch since 2016. We use this feature every day not only on MacBooks but also on iPhones to replace Face ID. But now Apple has sued SmartWatch company MobileConcept which claims the system has already been patented by them and therefore Apple infringed on their intellectual property.

SmartWatch MobileConcept does not have any products. More interestingly the patent was only filed SmartWatch MobileConcept in August 2016 after Apple unveiled the unlock system with this Apple Watch at WWDC 2016 which took place in June. Clearly Apple is not copying a patent owned by a company that appears to be a patent toyol.

The judge has not yet ruled on whether the suit will proceed or not. At the moment Apple has a strong case there is no reason they deserve to be sued.
