Brazil Also Wants To Mandate The Use Of USB-C On Smartphones

European Union (EU) countries have agreed to standardize the use of USB-C ports on electronic devices for charging purposes. This will make it easier for users to charge and not have to produce electronic waste dumping as old chargers can no longer be worn. This opens the door to iPhones with USB-C starting in 2025.

In addition to the EU, Brazil also wants to take a similar step by standardizing the use of USB-C on smartphones only. The Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) admitted the move was taken after seeing what the EU has done. Steps to standardize the use of USB-C have also been initiated by several senators in the United States.

Looking at this new development, Apple no longer has a reason to continue using Lightning which is not only non -uniform but does not support the faster USB protocol for data transfer.
