The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was recently directed to conduct audits and mapping on the quality of networks provided by local telecommunications companies to ensure that Malaysians always get the best quality mobile internet networks.
A recent survey by the telecommunications body found that the quality of networks provided by Celcom, Digi and U Mobile failed to meet the standards of broadband services on Langkawi Island, including the Langkawi Highway and a number of tourist destinations on the island.
The Commission's directive registered on 19 May 2022 requires the three companies to make improvements to the quality of service and the quality of the user experience at a good level and meet the quality standards set by MCMC.
Failure to improve the quality of their mobile internet connection to the prescribed level could result in the company being fined up to RM200,000 under section 109, Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA).
