China is now planning to launch a power station in space, based on solar. Initially, China targeted to launch it in 2030, but has now accelerated to 2028.
In 2028, China will launch a satellite, and test the transmission of wireless energy from space to Earth at an altitude of 400km.
Scientists say the satellite will convert solar energy into a microwave form and send the energy or power generated to several locations - including locations on Earth, as well as on moving satellites.
If all goes well, by 2035, it is expected to generate 10-megawatts of energy and send it for use by the military as well as the public. The station is also expected to be able to generate up to 2 gigawatts by 2050.
