Devices With A Large Number Of Cameras Are A Gimmick To The Harm Of Consumers

Whether you all noticed or not, a large number of manufacturers so frequently use macro and depth sensors on their respective output devices. Undoubtedly some smart devices rely heavily on this type of lens to reduce cost value and marketing needs.

But, push aside the question of frugality. Most importantly now is it a necessity or just a gimmick by manufacturers these days? Try looking at your own smartphone, is it also loaded with these types of sensors? If so, are you using it to the fullest? This is the topic to be discussed and the writing of this article is only our personal view.

To us, the use of macro and depth sensors on a smart device can be considered a gimmick. In other words, it aims to drive sales and the value of cosmetics alone. For example, there are three or four cameras included but which is really useful is only one? Where is the rationale?

Quite funny also every time when a smart device made by a manufacturer is supplied with this type of sensor. Don’t they realize that not many of us use macro sensors. Enough, entering 2022 we want each offer in total without the need for gimmicks.

2MP macro sensor for example. Frankly at first it sounds a bit interesting. Furthermore, it is advertised to be able to capture small objects in detail at very close focal lengths. Some of them can reach a distance of 4cm. However, the result is completely wrong. Even to this day, we ourselves have not found a truly satisfactory picture result when using this type of sensor.

Most of the picture results are not only unattractive, but in fact quite detrimental and better not included at all. With the small lens size, the noise problem can be seen so clearly. Next, the recorded object is also not sharp with an inconsistent bokeh effect. There are some situations where the result of the picture looks dark frequently.

The use of this type of sensor should honestly be stopped because it is useless and just a waste of time. We are also confident that the sensor is just a decoration.

What about the 5MP macro sensor? It is often used on Samsung devices with autofocus capability that can work between 3 - 5cm. We still feel like it's just a gimmick. Most of the results are the same as those with devices with small -sized macro lenses. The picture is not sharp and not bright enough at the same time it reminds us of the device from early 2010.

Slightly different from the 5MP tele macro sensor introduced by Xiaomi. Its capabilities are better than the 2MP macro sensor although not perfect. However, a really great macro capture capability entirely in our favor is to use a pinnacle specification device.

Next, the depth sensor. It is no exaggeration to say that the depth sensor in most Chinese smartphones today is a mere gimmick. Gimmicks that aim to obscure the eyes of consumers. You can also test it yourself by closing the sensor with your finger while taking a portrait photo. You will notice as if nothing is happening and clearly show the picture taken with the depth sensor is the same as the main sensor. Basically, he is also directly incapable of delivering good results comprehensively.

It is better if the manufacturers replace it with the use of ultra-wide sensors. Frankly, it is seen as capable of being a solution for the device as a whole more attractive. We also described this type of sensor as more useful, in addition to creating a mutually beneficial solution, particularly the benefits for wide recording in small spaces.

At the same time, you can also capture a variety of more dramatic pictures with this type of ultra-wide sensor. Alternatively, sensors with zoom capabilities such as a periscope or telephoto can also be useful additions. Devices with such sensors allow you to capture distant objects more easily. Or if not, make some interesting improvements to the selfie camera support.

Well, maybe the issue here is not just about solutions but more to capabilities. What we’re trying to convey here, don’t be easily fooled by the quantity of cameras on smart devices today. A lot doesn’t mean everything works well. Buy a device that fits your needs without being fooled by the gimmicks of the manufacturers alone.
