GoodWill Hostage Software Forces Hacking Victims To Provide Financial Assistance To Those Who Need It

When talking about hostage software attacks, hackers will typically ask for large amounts of ransom to return locked data, in order to enrich themselves.

Most recently, GoodWill’s hostage software was seen resembling the mythical legend of England, Robin Hood where the victims of such hacking attacks were forced to share their wealth with those in need, such as the poor, and those who were sick and in need of medical assistance.

CloudSEK, a computer security analysis company has released a report on this hostage software. They say that once the data of any company has been locked by this group, they will be given a hostage note directing them to perform three social welfare charitable activities to obtain a key that can restore their data.

These activities include giving new clothes and blankets to those living homeless, and uploading the act to social media platforms. The second is to give food like Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut or KFC to poor children in any neighborhood.

For the third assignment, they have to go to a hospital and help those who find it difficult to want to pay the test and also medical fees, and pay the fees in full. They were also seen to need to record audio of the changes with these patients, and send the footage to this group of hackers, and then upload writings about the act on social media platforms.

The CloudSEK report also says that this group of hackers is seen to be from India based on several factors, including an email address originating from an IT company in the country.
