As the founder of Facebook or what is now known as Meta, Mark Zuckerberg's wealth is certainly undeniable. His name also always appears on the list of the richest people in the world, even though his shopping style is somewhat unusual and tends not to show off his wealth.
Zuckerberg first became billionaire status when he was 23 years old, not long after Facebook was listed on the stock exchange. Based on Forbes data, Zuckerberg is now the 16th richest person in the world with a fortune of USD 59 billion.
Although his wealth is a mountain, Zuckerberg and his family's appearance in public looks very simple. He is even known to always wear a plain T-shirt and a hoodie jacket because he doesn't want to bother thinking about what to wear.
This 37-year-old man also did not spend his money to buy a luxury car. In recent years, Zuckerberg has been seen using regular sedans such as the Acura TSX, Honda, and Volkswagen.
However, according to the South China Morning Post, Zuckerberg once spent USD 1.4 million to buy a luxury sports car Pagani Huayra, as quoted by the International Business Times, Tuesday (21/6/2022).
Zuckerberg's wealth is mostly disbursed to buy property and land. With his wife Priscilla Chan, Zuckerberg has repeatedly been reported to have bought land and houses at fantastic prices.
For example, in May 2011 the two bought a house in Palo Alto, California for over USD 7 million. To increase the privacy of his family, Zuckerberg also bought four houses around his residence for more than USD 43 million.
Zuckerberg and family also spend a lot of time in Hawaii and own several properties there. In 2014, Zuckerberg purchased two 304-acre properties on Kauai Island, Hawaii for $100 million.
Three years later, Zuckerberg returned to buy 36 hectares of land on the island of Kauai for USD 45 million. At the end of last year, Zuckerberg and his wife expanded their property portfolio by buying $40 acres of land for $17 million. In total, Zuckerberg owns 607 hectares of land in Hawaii.
Not only spent on property, Zuckerberg and his wife also donated some of their wealth to charity. In 2015, the two founded the charitable foundation Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and Zuckerberg committed to donate 99% of his Facebook shares to the foundation.
Through the foundation, Zuckerberg and his wife donated a lot to health projects. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative has donated more than USD 100 million, including USD 11.5 million to help health agencies, organizations, and schools in the San Francisco Bay Area, and USD 1.5 million to local businesses.
