Instagram Now Supports AMBER Alert For Missing Children In Malaysia

No parent wants their child lost. That is why America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response (AMBER) Alert was introduced in 2000 after a high profile case involving Amber Hagerman in 1996. In Malaysia the same system was given the name National Urgent Response (NUR) Alert since 2014 which took the name Nurin Jazlin Jazimin who was abducted before being killed in 2007.

Instagram today announced that AMBER Alert will be supported on the platform starting today in the United States before being expanded to 25 more countries including Malaysia in just a few weeks. The AMBER Alert notification will notify individuals near a reported loss based on device location and IP. Previously, NUR Alert was supported on Facebook since 2016 through the cooperation of PDRM.

Information of the missing child’s name, photo, appearance level, last location and other important information will be displayed in the Instagram timeline. From the announcement displayed, users can directly contact the authorities to provide assistance or information on missing children.
