iPhone runs rampant, Android phones struggle in the premium market

Overall, the iPhone's market share has indeed lost to Android phones. But it's a different story in the premium cellphone market, the iPhone is practically rampant and Android phones that play in that segment are struggling, except for Samsung.

The latest data from the research bureau Counterpoint Research for the first quarter of 2022 which ended last March, revealed that the iPhone controlled 62% of the world's premium smartphone market. In other words, two-thirds of all high-end phones sold are iPhones.

Premium mobile phone itself is a category of mobile phones whose price is equivalent to or above USD 400. The iPhone market share itself is up 5% from before, so that it is further away from rivals Android.

Being in the number one position of the best-selling premium mobile phone is the iPhone 13 with a dominant market share of 23%, followed respectively by the iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12. Only in fifth position appeared Android phones, namely the flagship Samsung Galaxy S22. Ultra 5G.

Samsung is indeed quite a champion in the premium segment as a competitor to the iPhone, where in that quarter, high-end Galaxy devices held 16% of the market share, slightly down from the previous 18%.

But that doesn't mean the popularity of the Galaxy S has decreased, but indeed the Galaxy S22 was launched recently in February. That is, the sale period has not been so long.

"It remains to be seen whether Samsung can be successful again in this quarter, but at first it looks good. Not only is the S22 Ultra the most popular flagship Android phone, but also the most famous of all the existing Android phones," wrote Phone Arena quoted as saying by Phone Arena. we.
