Recently, there was a scam syndicate using the name Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) by offering job offers, money investment services and various financial packages under the economic body.
MDEC has issued a statement that all the messages sent via email, SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage and so on are fake. MDEC has never offered any investment or money lending services, and will not occasionally send notices of employment opportunities through messaging services as well.
They also advised the public not to tap on any of the links contained in these messages, and not to reply to these sent messages, for fear it was a social engineering tactic to gain access to your device data remotely.
It is recommended that you delete messages like these when you receive them, and as an additional step, blacklist the number so that you do not receive the message in the future.
MDEC also said they were investigating the mastermind behind this SMS scam syndicate and would take appropriate action against those responsible.
