A row of well-known technology giants, formed a group to set the standard for metaverse development. Titled the Metaverse Standards Forum, it contains big names such as Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games, Nvidia, Adobe and many more.
The collaboration will try to find some elements, which hinder the spread of the metaverse. Then how Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs), understand the problem and develop ways, so that it can be implemented quickly to overcome it.
"Building a metaverse for everyone will require a broad industry focus on common standards. The Metaverse Standards Forum, can drive the collaboration needed to make this happen and Meta is committed to this work," said Vishal Shah, Vice President of Metaverse at Meta. official website, Friday (24/6/2022).
Marc Petit, Vice President of Unreal Engine at Epic Games, also revealed that this collaboration was deliberately established to accelerate the development and implementation of metaverse standards. Well, that's in line with the purpose it describes.
"Our goal is to build an open metaverse, which enriches humanity and is home to a just and thriving ecosystem with millions of creators," said Petit.
However, there are several other big names missing from the list. Starting from Google, Apple, Pokemon GO game developer Niantic and Roblox.
Even though it is known, that Apple is preparing a VR or AR headset. Where a lot of hope arises from the fans, for them to become major players in the metaverse.
When referring to the member list on the official website, it also includes other names, such as Qualcomm, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Huawei and even IKEA. Given that this forum is open to the public and there is no registration fee, there is a possibility that the number of members will increase along with the similarity of mission and vision.
