The Penang government has now shared that it has begun pilot trials developing 5G broadband spectrum infrastructure at three locations around George Town.
Penang said they were conducting pilot tests at three George Town locations as there was still no direction on which company would operate the 5G network.
The project is also being implemented to test the availability of local authorities such as municipalities as well as state governments in receiving 5G services - including the provision of the necessary infrastructure.
In terms of the DNB, they have previously stated that they are developing several 5G sites in Penang, but it is not yet known when the official introduction will be. Today, only Yes offers 5G services to the public. The government also gave a date until June 30 to ensure that all telecommunications companies sign an agreement with the DNB for the implementation of 5G.
