Qualcomm Succeeds In Appeal To Cancel RM4.5 Billion Suit By EU Over Monopoly

Qualcomm succeeded in their appeal to quash a € 997 million (~ RM4.5 billion) lawsuit by the European Union (EU) because their actions in paying Appel to continue using their production modems were seen as anti -competitive.

A lawsuit was filed against Qualcomm in 2018 for paying Apple from 2011 to 2016. This according to the EU prevents other manufacturers from supplying modems to Apple. As a result, competitors such as Intel failed to compete and had to withdraw from the market. But the appeals court said only Qualcomm -produced modems meet Apple's LTE requirements. Therefore to say Qualcomm blocked competition is inaccurate and the fines have been overturned.
