Samsung Display Stops LCD Production Earlier Than Originally Planned

The era of LCD screen production by Samsung Display has come to an end with the company stopping its production six months earlier than originally planned. According to a Korea Times report, steps are being taken to reduce the losses the company will incur if production continues.

The selling price of LCD panels has also reached around 36.6% of the price from 2014. Competition provided by BOE from China and AU Optronics from Taiwan makes the production of LCD panels no longer profitable for Samsung Display.

Samsung Display originally wanted to stop production of LCD panels in 2020 but continued it due to demand during the pandemic. Sasmung Display’s focus is now given to the production of more recent OLED and Quantum Dot panels with Apple among their key customers.
