Facebook is trying to compete with TikTok, especially with the Reels feature on Instagram that looks a lot like TikTok. But TikTok executives said it was difficult for Facebook to match them.
Blake Chandlee is TikTok's President of Global Business Solutions and has worked at Facebook for 12 years so he has a lot of experience. According to him, Facebook and TikTok are very different platforms.
"Facebook is a social platform. They make algorithms based on social graphs. That is the core of their competence. We are not like that," he was quoted as saying by CNBC.
"We are an entertainment platform. So, the difference is significant. This is a massive difference," he added.
He further gave an example, in the past Google tried to compete with Facebook by releasing a social media called Google+ with a large amount of funds. Although it was considered potential to fight Facebook, it turned out to be a total failure.
"You remember when Google used to create Google+. Everyone (on Facebook) was worried about it. But it became clear that Google's value was search and Facebook is very good at social," explained the boss of TikTok.
"I see the same thing now. We're really good at what we do. We're bringing cultural trends and unique experiences to people on TikTok. They're not going to get it on Facebook unless Facebook really abandons its social value which I don't think it will." they do," he continued.
Previously, Mark Zuckerberg as CEO and founder of Facebook acknowledged TikTok was a big threat so that his party continued to launch Reels on Instagram and also on Facebook's own website. "That's why our focus on Reels is very important in the long term," he said.
