Deodorant is one of the mandatory body care products in the list of body care products, both for women and men. This body care product is much sought after because of its function that can hold sweat and prevent the body from smelling bad due to excessive sweat production.
Deodorant can be found anywhere, from minimarkets, supermarkets, even in e-commerce that can be purchased online. Not only that, deodorant has a variety of shapes to prices and is easy to get anywhere.
However, it turns out that in South Korea, deodorant is one of the body care products that is quite rare and is sold at a fairly expensive price, you know. Check out some of the reasons why dedorants are expensive in South Korea below!
Korean People Don't Have Body 'Smell'
Did you know that people in South Korea naturally do not have body odor? Not without reason, but there is a scientific explanation regarding this. According to 10mag.com and The Korea Times, there is a rare gene known as ABCC11.
The gene also affects a person's body odor and ear wax. If a person has a wet type of earwax, it makes him also tend to emit body 'odour'.
Based on the study, 97% of people of European and African descent have the ABCC11 gene that makes them emit body odor, while most Asian people, especially Koreans have a gene that makes them not emit body odor at all.
Because of this, deodorant is becoming quite rare in South Korea, considering that the majority of the people do not need deodorant in their daily body care.
Only Sold in Certain Places
Although deodorants are quite rare in South Korea, that doesn't mean you can't find deodorants in the country of ginseng. Some places such as convenience stores, supermarkets, or certain cosmetic stores in South Korea sell deodorants of several types.
However, even though these places sell deodorant, the price offered is quite expensive compared to the price of deodorant in other countries. Moreover, the fact that Koreans naturally do not emit body odor also makes them not always feel the 'need' to buy deodorant.
Even some foreign tourists admit that it is quite difficult to find deodorant in South Korea.
Those are some of the reasons that make deodorants rare and quite expensive in South Korea. Are you yourself, a team of deodorant users or not?
