Well This Is What You've Been Waiting For! WhatsApp Tests Message Editing Feature

WhatsApp is back to focus on developing new messaging features. After launching the emoji reactions feature, WhatsApp is now working on a feature to edit messages that have been sent.

The existence of this new feature was reported by WABetaInfo. This feature is still under development and not yet available for beta testers. Later, this feature will be rolled out as part of an update to WhatsApp beta on Android, iOS, and Desktop.

WABetaInfo noted that they previously announced the existence of this feature in 2017. But not long after it was revealed on Twitter, WhatsApp canceled its development.

From the screenshot uploaded by WABetaInfo, it can be seen that WhatsApp presents a new option when selecting messages. In addition to the 'Info' and 'Copy' options, there is now also an 'Edit' option that can be selected to edit the messages sent.

This feature is certainly useful for users who want to correct typos in their messages after they have been sent. Instead of sending a new message, WhatsApp users can now simply edit the part that is needed.

WABetaInfo says there will likely be no edit history feature to view previous versions of edited messages. But since this feature is still under development, it is likely that WhatsApp will change its plans before this feature is released.

In addition, information about the time lag given by WhatsApp to allow users to edit messages is still unknown, as quoted from WABetaInfo, Wednesday (1/6/2022).

WABetaInfo said that although this screenshot was taken from the WhatsApp beta for Android, this message editing feature will also be present in the WhatsApp beta for iOS and Desktop.

Unfortunately, since this feature is still under development, it is not yet known when this feature will be available for beta testers. WABetaInfo said more information would be available in the near future.
