5.4 Million Twitter User Data Leaked, Hackers Want To Sell At RM133 Thousand

The issue of privacy and security of social media accounts is not a trivial matter. It needs to be taken seriously, because in an age where life depends on the Internet – a lot of people's personal data is stored in the cloud.

Last January, Twitter suffered a security vulnerability that caused the leakage of user data. Although Twitter has fixed the issue, hackers have managed to obtain 5.4 million Twitter user data including phone numbers and email addresses.

A security vulnerability that occurred last January allowed anyone to search for a Twitter ID by phone number or email. It's an identifier system used by Twitter and even if users have limited searches by number and email address – this security vulnerability can bypass it.

These 5.4 million users include celebrities, famous people, verified accounts with blue smudges and many more. These irresponsible hackers want to sell these data at a price of no less than $30,000 which is around RM133,560.

For now there is still no way to know, whether your Twitter account is safe or not. For security, enable two-factor authentication or use two-factor authentication with a physical key.
