Air New Zealand Offers Sleeping Pods For Economy Passengers By 2024

The ability to sleep in an airplane is only given to first class and business ticket holders. For those who buy economy tickets, sleep them in a sitting position throughout the trip. Air New Zealand wants to make big changes to their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

By 2024, Air New Zealand will offer Skynest and Skycouch seats to economy class passengers. The Skynest is a reclining sleeping pod placed on the back that was previously shown as a concept only. Six passengers sleep in each Skynest pod like a capsule hotel room in Japan. Each sleeping space is 200 cm and 58 cm wide. Pillows, blankets and a USB charger pod are also offered on each sleeping pod.

Next up is the Skycouch which combines three economy class chairs into a bed complete with mattress. Parents who fly with a child can turn their seat into a place where the child lies more comfortably. Also offered to economy passengers is the Sky Pantry for them to drink and eat in a more comfortable space.
