Bill Gates decided to stop being rich and planned to donate much of his wealth. This he revealed through his teasing on Twitter.
"As I look to the future, I plan to give almost all of my wealth to a foundation (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation). I'm going to go down and end up off the list of the richest people in the world," Gates said.
So, about what extraordinary amount of wealth will it be used for?
So far, the Bill & Melinda Foundation has considerable funds. But according to CNBC, Monday (7/18/2022) the figure of USD 6 billion for annual spending, Gates planned to increase to USD 9 billion per year in 2026.
"It is now clear that the needs in all areas where we work are greater than ever. The great crisis of our time requires us all to do more," Gates wrote on his blog. That refers to the COVID-19 pandemic to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Founded in 2000, the foundation has become one of the largest charitable organizations in the world. These nonprofits fund a variety of causes, with a particular focus on finding solutions to global problems such as disease, poverty, climate change, and access to health care and education.
In real action, a 2008 study from Rice University found that the Bill & Melinda Foundation provided substantial funding for research on malaria and tuberculosis vaccines. Also includes asthma and heart disease.
Going forward, Bill Gates writes that he wants his continued contribution to fund research and development on pandemic prevention in the future, reducing climate change and cutting global child deaths from preventable diseases in the coming decades.
