Different from Minecraft, Epic Games Doesn't Ban NFT in Games

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, said he would not be following in Minecraft's footsteps regarding the banning of NFTs in the game. According to him, developers should be free to decide how to build their games.

"Then, players are free to decide whether to play it. I believe stores and operating system makers should not interfere, by imposing their views on others. We definitely won't do that," replied Sweeney, quoted by us from a post on Twitter, Monday (25 /7/2022).

He conveyed this when a Twitter user mentioned his name in one of the posts, regarding Mojang Studios prohibiting the presence of NFT in their game, namely Minecraft. However, it turns out that Sweeney, gave the opposite answer from what he conveyed last year.

Another user linked Sweeney's answer, with a post on September 27, 2021. At that time, he straightforwardly revealed that Epic Games would not touch NFT.

"We will not touch NFT, because the entire field is currently entangled with complex fraud, decentralized technology foundations, and other frauds," said Sweeney (27/9).

Sweeney's statements are contradictory, whether he supports or rejects the existence of the NFT. Some accounts support it and others don't.

Meanwhile, Mojang Studios, as the developer of the sandbox game, Minecraft, had previously provided feedback on NFT. They strictly forbid the presence of NFT in the game they claim.

"To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not allowed on our clients and servers. Including skins, items or mods may not be used," said Mojang.

The video game giant insists that they have rules, under which Minecraft will remain a community, where everyone has access to equal content.

"However, the NFT can model scarcity and exclusion that goes against our guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft," explains Mojang.
