The digital world or the internet is filled with people from various cultural backgrounds. So we need a new standard, netiquette, as the norm in interacting.
Without netiquette and other digital competencies, life on the internet would be far from peaceful. The digital realm will only be filled with hoaxes, hate speech, intolerance, as well as cyber bullying and fraud.
It is this ethic that creates a new standard for interacting with one another. Especially in the digital space, where users are not only Indonesians, but all nations in the world. Therefore, internet users need to have competence related to netiquette. These include verifying messages, participating in building social relationships, and collaborating data and information safely and conveniently on digital platforms.
Hoax spreaders violate netiquette, because they cannot maintain politeness, lie, and do not maintain peace in the digital space. In addition to hoaxes, other actions that are also not in accordance with netiquette are cyberbullying (body shaming and inciting). This phenomenon is growing steadily, and far from netiquette.
Therefore, being a digital citizen in this pluralistic country needs to create a digital culture. Moreover, many influences from foreigners are also easy to find on the internet. Values need to be strengthened again in the digital realm.
To be able to be democratic and tolerant in the digital space, it can be done by giving other people the opportunity to have an opinion, recognizing minority rights, prioritizing deliberation, respecting the religion and worship of others, and not bullying. Seek information from credible sources.
