Cow dung is usually thrown away just like that with only a few attempts to use it as a home building material in Africa and kitchen fuel in India. In Japan cow dung will be used as an energy source to generate sustainable electricity.
The Canadian firm Anaergia will build an electric power station in Okayama, Japan in collaboration with Toyo Energy Solution Co. A total of 250 tonnes of cow dung will be collected daily with the biogas produced which will power the power turbines used. A total of 1.2 Megawatts of clean energy can be generated a year for 2,200 homes in the nearby area.
In addition to generating more environmentally friendly electricity, it can also reduce the production of methane gas which has a negative impact on the atmosphere if cow dung is left alone. Hopefully this technology will continue and not just warm up cow dung.
