The Energy Commission has now chosen not to consider any special tariff values for cryptocurrency mining activities - as previously proposed by National Energy.
The Energy Commission says they want to avoid any discrimination between consumers, and at the same time avoid it being a start for other sectors to also apply for special tariff values.
To date, various applications are readily accepted by the Energy Commission in setting the value of special tariffs - including from the transport industry as well as agriculture. Yet, to date, it has not been considered.
However, any activity of stealing electricity will continue to be prosecuted-including by cryptocurrency miners.
