Google has previously stated that they will end support for third-party cookies on the Google Chrome web browser - thereby giving users more privacy. Initially, it was planned to be implemented as early as 2022, but was delayed to 2023, and now Google has again delayed it to 2024.
With this move, web service providers can still use cookie technology on their services to track users until 2024 on Chrome.
The termination of this feature is in an effort to give users more privacy on their browsing, while making it difficult for any tracker to know the user's activity through Chrome. But, it is expected to affect some services, including advertising and others.
This delay is to ensure a smooth transition from using cookies to not. Google aims to expand the use of Privacy Sandbox more widely in the coming months in testing cookie-free alternatives on the web.
The Privacy Sandbox API is expected to be integrated on Google Chrome as early as the third quarter of 2023, before the cookie barrier is implemented on Google Chrome in 2024. We hope that Google will not delay the introduction of the feature any longer.
