Pixel Launcher is a launcher used on Google Pixel devices. This launcher is popular because it is simple, easy to use, packed with attractive and user -friendly features and functions. Because this launcher is exclusive for use on Pixel devices, it cannot be accessed by users of other devices.
As a result, there are several third -party launcher developers starting to offer launchers with more or less the same functions and features so that it works more closely as Pixel Launcher. Among the most popular and frequently used is the Lawnchair.
Lawnchair is built based on Android’s open source launcher, Launcher3. Through it similar features on Pixel Launcher are integrated such as the ability to use At a Glance widgets, adaptive icon support, non -Google search service on widgets and more.
Recently, a developer in Lawnchair has come out and stopped to help develop this launcher. This is because he found that much of Lawnchair’s development code was taken directly from Pixel Launcher and reworked into its own launcher.
In other words, the code in this launcher is code taken from a Google product without permission. They use Pixel Launcher code, decode and rework so that users of non -Pixel devices can enjoy features and functionality that should be exclusive to Pixel.
This would be a legal problem for some countries like Europe. Because Europe does not allow competing companies to reprocess another company’s product to compete. Since the majority of Lawnchair developers are from Europe, this could be a big issue if Google is aware of it.
Not sure what the fate of Lawnchair will be after this. For now it can still be used on many Android devices. Are you among the users of this launcher?
