The meta (metalens) lens technology we first reported on last year with it promises a much thinner camera lens for use on mobile device cameras. The issue of camera bumps that are growing year after year can be solved by this technology.
Now The Elec reports LG Innotek has also developed their own meta lens with a thickness of 1/10,000 compared to regular lenses. This technology can not only be used on cameras but also to produce lenses for more compactly designed augmented reality headsets.
LG Innotek also confirmed they have successfully developed a liquid lens in collaboration with Corning but it poses various other challenges that make it not yet ready for commercialization.
Samsung also developed their meta lens technology last year but until now the actual products that use it have not been marketed to the public.
