Huawei officially introduced Harmony OS 3.0. This operating system update brings a number of improvements, here's a list of Huawei phones and tablets that will get them.
HarmonyOS 3.0 made its debut on the MatePad Pro 11. Huawei brought a new look, improved widgets and multitasking to its mobile operating system.
The latest HarmonyOS provides a Universal Card widget format. This widget is easily adaptable to multiple shapes, sizes and styles.
Widgets can be grouped and will automatically resize to fit. And if there are too many to fit, users can stack them on top of each other and easily flip them over.
HarmonyOS 3.0 has the ability to connect with two pairs of headphones. It lets users listen to music together with a friend.
The new OS keeps a log of how often each app accesses the user's location, camera, microphone, files or contacts. This will be shown in graphical form so that we can decide to remove the permission manually, but the system can also do it automatically.
The feature will also keep an eye on malicious behavior from apps, suspicious network activity, and other threats. Untrusted apps can be given fake permissions, which will allow them to open for example an image gallery or SMS access box.
The system also has convenient tools for erasing potentially sensitive data when sharing photos - embedded time and location, for example. This feature can scan through screenshots and obscure phone numbers, addresses and so on.
HarmonyOS 3.0 improves app launch time and responsiveness and reduces power consumption during gaming (compared to HarmonyOS 2.0).
The new HarmonyOS extends the core idea of the system - creating a "super device", which is a combination of two or more smart devices working simultaneously. The UI is quite simple, they can get the view of connected devices as bubbles and the user just drag one bubble to another to merge them into a super device. Interestingly, HarmonyOS 3.0 devices don't need to be on the same Wi-Fi network to connect to each other.
Huawei plans to start distributing updates to devices starting from September. For a list of supported devices, see the next page
