Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip Specifications Have Leaked

Rumors about the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 have been circulating. Even though Samsung still hasn't launched the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

This leak comes from South Korean media The Elec. They didn't reveal the full specifications of the two folding screen phones, but at least we got to know the camera specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Samsung's sales strategy going forward.

For the specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, The Elec says this phone will have three rear cameras including a 50 MP main camera that uses the ISOCELL GN3 sensor. This phone will also be equipped with a 12 MP front camera.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also expected to have three rear cameras consisting of a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera and a 12 MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom. Maybe Samsung will use the same camera setup for the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

In addition to camera specifications, The Elec revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will carry the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip which is expected to debut at the end of this year.

Samsung has always used the latest Snapdragon chips for its foldable phones, so this rumor makes a lot of sense. It is not impossible that Samsung will use Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 if it has been announced in advance.

In addition to the leaked specifications above, The Elec also revealed Samsung's folding screen phone sales strategy. They report that Samsung will drastically lower its shipment target for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, meaning that it plans to sell fewer foldable phones in 2023 than it did this year and the previous year.

The Korean technology giant has set a shipment target of 10 million units for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. Of this total, the shipment target for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is only around two million units, and Samsung will further encourage sales of the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

For comparison, Samsung reportedly set a target of 15 million units for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, which launched this year, as quoted from Android Authority, Sunday (17/7/2022).

There are several factors that influenced Samsung to lower its target, including rising raw material prices, the protracted Russia-Ukraine war, and slowing economic growth.

But of course it's still too early to predict the specifications and production of the new phone that will be launched next year, and maybe there will be changes from Samsung ahead of launch time. Meanwhile, Samsung is still preparing for the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 which are rumored to debut next month.
