People may know Samsung more for the electronic devices, storage components and even processing chips that they manufacture, but did you know that they also develop components for data center use.
Samsung SmartSSD is a storage component that also comes with its own processing unit that is used for task processing purposes such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and for data processing on 5G networks.
It is simply a small computer that can receive, store and process data at once, reducing the latency issue of data transmission from storage to the CPU and directly allowing information to be processed faster.
Samsung SmartSSD was developed together with AMD, and in the second generation model, it is seen to reduce data search time by 50 percent, reduce power consumption by 70 percent and CPU consumption by 97 percent compared to other data center computers.
Samsung SmartSSD is developed using the Xilinx Versal SoC platform developed by AMD and as said before, it helps to reduce the dependence on the CPU of data center computers and reduce the rate of energy consumption quite a lot.
Samsung is also seen working with the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and NVM Express to show how these components can be used in more industries.
