The Apple-1 was Apple's first computer and also their first product designed by Steve Wozniak. It was an 8-bit desktop computer released in 1976. Just a year after it was released, production was discontinued and they replaced it with the Apple II.
Recently, the Apple-1 prototype named Apple Computer A owned by Steve Job is up for auction. This prototype was soldered by Steve Wozniak himself and it was this unit that Steve demonstrated to Paul Terell the owner of The Byte Shop in 1976.
This Apple Computer A is listed as the second Apple-1 prototype, after it was confirmed lost until it was found again and its authenticity was confirmed by Corey Cohen. This prototype doesn't work because the motherboard is broken. But Corey is an expert who has confirmed this is the same prototype that Paul tested by comparing it to Paul's polaroid photos.
The auction is being conducted on the RR Auction website with the price at the time this article was written already reaching $156,925 which is around RM698,756. It will be auctioned until August 18 with the price expected to reach up to $500,000 which is around RM2,226,400.
