Did you know that until today, Apple has only two products that use OLED screen panels? It is an iPhone and also an Apple Watch. Other Apple products still use LCD-based screens or selected MacBooks and iPads with Mini-LED panels.
For Apple products that use LCD screens, among their suppliers are LCD and BOE. Apple has also used panels from Sharp before. Now, Apple is seen to be looking for a new LCD panel supplier for use in the iPad and MacBook.
A report from The Elec states that TCL chairman Li Dongsheng will visit Apple Park to try to win a contract as a new LCD supplier. LCDs from TCL are manufactured by CSOT which is a fierce competitor to BOE.
CSOT also already has a special team to produce screen panels that follow Apple's desired standards. If all goes well, CSOT will challenge LG and even BOE by starting to supply LCD panels to Apple in 2023 or 2024.
