Two months ago, Xiaomi has confirmed that they will be partnering with Leica to apply camera technology on their devices. Back then all we knew was rumors that a Leica camera would be used on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra device.
A few days ago, they also confirmed that the camera sensor that will be used is 1-inch for the Xiaomi 12S Ultra device. This sensor is built by Sony, the IMX989 Quad-Bayer. This sensor can ensure better image results with less noise effects, more light can enter as well as a better night mode. Today, after a long wait - this device is officially launched for the Chinese market.
According to Xiaomi, this collaboration has made them come up with their own optical lens with 8P asterisk lens technology that can ensure no problems of light glare, ghosting effects, and can also ensure no problems of glare effects. Xiaomi will also use the iconic Leica camera design with the red Leica logo, as well as support “Leica Authentic Look” and “Leica Vibrant Look” photo profiles on the camera app. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is also the first Android device to support Dolby Vision HDR video recording and support HyperOIS stabilization.
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, built in 4nm by TSMC, 10% performance enhancer with 30% more efficiency. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is also equipped with a new cooling system with a cooling liquid pumping system.
The screen size is 6.73-inch AMOLED LTPO E5 120Hz, with Dolby Vision TrueColor Display support, the screen resolution is 3200 x 1440, the brightness can reach 1500 nits. Memory on the device is up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM with internal storage up to 512GB UFS 3.1 with FBO refresh storage support. For audio, Xiaomi uses Harmon Kardon symmetrical stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Snapdragon Sound support.
For the camera, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra uses the Leica Summicron 1: 1.9-4.1 / 13-120 ASPH imaging system. The main camera is 50.3MP with a 1-inch wide-angle Sony IMX989 f/1.9 sensor, supports Octa-PD auto-focus, as well as a lens with a layer of ink on the perimeter.
It is matched with an ultra-wide-angle camera from the 1/2-inch Sony IMX586 48MP f/4.1 sensor that supports macro recording, as well as a 120mm telephoto camera from the Sony IMX586 f/4.1 48MP sensor. It also has Leica Vivid, Leica Natural, Leica BW Natural and Leica BW High Contrast filter systems as well as a Master-lens system. For the selfie camera it uses a 32MP RGBW sensor.
The camera of this Xiaomi 12S Ultra device also supports 10-bit RAW format tuned by Adobe Labs to make it easier for users to edit photos with software such as Adobe Lightroom.
The battery of the device is 4860mAh with fast charging support 67W wired, 50W wireless and 10W wireless reverse. The device is also powered by Xiaomi Surge P1 and Surge G1 chips that can ensure the charging process is smooth, safe for the device and can predict the battery life of the device.
The device is also equipped with an X-axis haptic engine, supports dual-5G, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and has IP68 protection. The back panel of the device uses a leather -like finish with Classic Black and Verdant Green color options.
The device is only sold in China exclusively and Xiaomi has no plans to further expand the market for this device for now. The sale price starts at RMB5999 which is around RM3955 for 8/256 GB and reaches up to RMB6999 which is around RM4615 for 12/512 GB.
