Black plate sales have soared over the past few years to overtake compact disc sales. The new generation is returning to the analog medium because they feel it is more attractive than digital streaming technology. Yamaha Design Laboratory has launched a virtual blackboard player that works with a smartphone.
The TurnT black plate player looks like a regular player - comes with a black plate reading arm with a rectangular body. Music can only be played when the head of the reader’s arm touches the screen of a smartphone that displays a rotating virtual black plate.
Like a real record player, the music will change when placed in different positions on the record. The virtual blackboard can be changed on the phone screen when necessary. A speaker and audio adjustable knob are also placed on the front of the TurnT. At the moment TurnT is just a concept product with no planning to offer it to the public.
