Like Instagram, YouTube also wants to counter the challenge from TikTok by offering a short video feature on their platform. Therefore Shorts were first introduced two years ago. To facilitate the production of Shorts videos, YouTube has offered a feature that allows existing videos to be re-edited into Shorts on the Android and iOS applications.
There is an “Edit into Shorts” button on the YouTube interface. Video owners can then take video clips of up to 60 seconds which will also be edited to appear vertical. It will later be republished as a Shorts video. YouTube believes that Shorts videos can lead viewers to later watch longer videos that are published.
