10 Interesting and Disappointing Things Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 / Galaxy Z Flip4

Samsung's fourth-generation foldable screen device was launched just now. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 retain the same design as last year's Z Fold3 and Z Fold3. Therefore it may be a little difficult for people to know the difference between this year's model and last year's model. Through this article we will list 10 interesting and disappointing things about Samsung's latest foldable screen device.

1. Interesting – Using Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is the most powerful chip for Android devices this year with around 10% performance improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 used in the Galaxy S22 series. Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is the chip used in the ASUS Zenfone 6 Pro gaming device. For those who want a powerful device not only for work but also for running high-end graphics Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 are devices that will meet the requirements.

2. Attractive – Z Fold4's External Screen is Now Wider

In last year's Z Fold3 review, we said the device's external screen was so flat that it was nearly impossible to type on. Users have no choice but to open the foldable screen simply to type WhatsApp messages, SMS or upload social media status. In 90% of situations the screen needs to be opened making the external screen just a decoration. On Z Fold4 the external screen is 3mm wider and as a result the typing process becomes more comfortable and the screen does not look too elongated.

3. Interesting – Z Fold4 Camera Now Comparable to S22

The complaint from owners of the Fold series over the years is that the camera system on their super premium device is only comparable to a mid-range device. Not at all as good as the most affordable Galaxy S series models. Samsung listened to user feedback and on the Z Fold4, the camera is 50MP wide-angle, 12MP ultra-wide-angle and 10MP telephoto zoom. Finally the device can do optical zoom up to 3X and digital zoom up to 30X. The era of Samsung's foldable screen devices with underwhelming cameras ends with the Z Fold4.

4. Interesting – Still IPX8 Waterproof

The Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 continue the tradition of waterproof foldable screen devices by passing the IPX8 standard. There is no worry that the device will be damaged if it comes into contact with water or accidentally falls into the pool. Compatible with the weather in Malaysia which can suddenly rain heavily. Samsung alone offers a foldable screen device that is truly waterproof not just splashproof on the market right now.

5. Interesting – The Z Flip4's Battery Is Now Bigger

The battery of the Z Flip4 increased to 3700 mAh compared to only 3300 mAh last year. Among the issues most frequently highlighted by Z Flip3 owners last year was the battery not being able to last all day. With the addition of a 400 mAh battery as well as the use of a more power-efficient processor, the issue of the device not lasting a day will be resolved.

6. Attractive – Clearly Displayed Multi-Task Taskbar

Multi-tasking taskbars like Windows and macOS computers were introduced last year. But this requires the user to select Side Panel first and then choose to place the pin so that it stays on the right or left side of the screen. Through One UI 4.1.1 on the Z Fold4, the taskbar is now automatically moved to the top of the screen when opening an application. Now the interface is more like a real computer operating system. The task of switching between applications and launching them in multi-window mode is faster than the previous interface.

7. Interesting – Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4Bespoke Customization Offered In Malaysia

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 Bespoke Edition is offered in 28 countries this time including Malaysia. Through this version users can choose 5 colors for the top panel, 5 colors for the bottom panel and 3 colors for the frame and hinges. A total of 75 color design combinations can be produced and selected by those who wish to order the Z Flip4 Bespoke Edition. Previously Bespoke smartphones were only offered in South Korea and the United States.

8. Disappointing – Crease Lines Are Still Clearly Visible

The fold line of the screen is still clearly visible on both devices. After four iterations of solving the mysterious issue that has existed since the first device has yet to be unraveled. The crease effect makes the device look weird at certain angles especially when watching videos and running previews.

9. Disappointing – Charging Still Only 25W

We are at the end of 2022 and Samsung is still just giving the same charging system since the Z Fold2 two years ago. With competitors able to offer 80W charging on their mid-range devices, the more premium Z Fold and Z Flip series only supporting 25W is disappointing.

10. Disappointing – No Significant Evolution in Design

Like the battery, the design of the device is not that much different compared to last year's Fold3. At a glance the difference in design is almost invisible. Granted the device is a bit smaller and lighter this year but this may not be enough for the majority of users out there. Samsung has been borrowing Apple's sales techniques lately with little change from year to year.
