Google Begins To Warn Users That Duo And Meet Will Be Merged

Google has announced since last June that the video calling service Duo and the teleconferencing service Meet will be combined into one application. The combination of these two applications into one is to make it easier for users to use only one application for video calling services.

A few weeks ago, some users started seeing notifications in the Duo app that Google was starting to warn that Duo and Meet would be merging. This reminder is now starting to reach more people. Not only that, the Google Meet application also started to become Meet (Original) with a green icon and no longer the colorful Google icon.

In the Duo application as well, the button to start a video call has changed to "New" or "New". After pressing it will also appear the options "Create a new meeting" and "Schedule in Google Calendar" where these two features are for Google Meet and were not in Duo before.

The full change is expected to take place in a few months. Google will likely use the Meet name with the new icon. Not sure yet how the branding of Google's new video calling service will do. Let's wait together.
