Google Reveals Cause of Down and Apologizes


Google apologized for its inaccessible search engine service. They also uncovered the cause of the problem.

According to them, Google was down due to problems during software updates. A Google spokesman said their team had fixed the problem quickly and the service was running normally again.


"We are aware of a software update issue that occurred this afternoon Pacific time and had a brief impact on Google Search and Maps," a Google spokesperson said.



"We apologize for the inconvenience. We worked quickly to fix this issue and our service is now back online," he added.


The downtime of this Google service was recorded on the Downdetector platform, with thousands of reports from users. Meanwhile, according to ThousandEyes, a network intelligence company, there are at least 1,338 servers in more than 40 countries that have been affected by the Google downturn.


Netizens in Indonesia also complained about the down Google service, who reported that the Google service could not be used starting at 08.00 WIB this morning. The majority of reports that come in are concerned with problems in searching and accessing websites, both desktop and mobile.


Interestingly, a few hours before this incident, there was an explosion incident in one of Google's data centers. Namely a data center located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States. Three electrical technicians were injured in the incident.


According to Police Council Bluffs, the incident was an arc flash explosion caused by electricity, which occurred on Monday (8/8) at 12 noon local time.


There were three injured technicians who were doing repairs near the data center building. During the repair process, an arc flash exploded, which caused severe burns to the three technicians.


One of the three victims was then flown by helicopter to Nebraska Medical Center, while the other two technicians were taken by ambulance. According to Council Bluffs police, the three technicians were conscious when they were taken to Nebraska Medical Center.


Google spokesperson Devon Smiley confirmed the incident to Sfgate. "We are aware of an electrical incident that occurred at Google's data center in Council bluffs, Iowa, which injured three people on site who are currently receiving medical treatment," he explained.


"The health and safety of our workers is our top priority, and we are working closely with our partners and local authorities to investigate this incident," Smiley added.
