How to Remove Instagram Content from Unfollowed Accounts

Instagram users have been complaining about one thing lately: their feeds are filled with content from unfollowed accounts. As a result, many users are annoyed that they have difficulty viewing content uploaded by friends and accounts they do know.

The content from these unfollowed accounts is content that is recommended by the Instagram algorithm which is considered interesting for its users. This is Instagram's new policy to compete with TikTok and make the platform a place for discovery or finding new content.

However, the presence of this recommended content actually makes users angry. Public figures such as Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian even joined the protest by sharing the 'Make Instagram Instagram Again' meme as well as asking Instagram to stop imitating TikTok.

Due to the flood of protests, Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri announced that he would reduce the amount of recommended content in users' feeds. But this new policy is only temporary and Instagram will continue to focus on recommending content after an evaluation.

Fortunately, for users who are tired of seeing their Instagram feed getting messy, there is a feature that can be activated to eliminate recommended content.

But keep in mind that this feature will only hide recommended content for 30 days. In addition, this feature also cannot hide ads that are displayed on the sidelines of posts.

Here's how to hide recommended content on Instagram feeds for 30 days, as quoted from The Verge, Monday (1/8/2022):

Open the Instagram app and scroll until you find recommended content uploaded by accounts you don't follow. This content is usually followed by an explanation of why you saw it, such as 'Because you saw the reel from xxx' or 'Because you followed xxx'

Tap the 'X' icon in the upper right corner of the recommendation post. After tapping, you will see a message confirming that the post has been hidden

After that, Instagram will provide several options regarding recommended content. To hide all recommended content from the feed, select the option 'Snooze suggested posts on homepage for 30 days'

Next, you will see a green check mark with a description stating that Instagram will not display recommended content for 30 days

If you want to see an even tidier and chronologically arranged feed, you can tap the Instagram logo in the top left corner and then select the 'Following' or 'Following' option.

Easy isn't it? With just a few clicks, your Instagram feed will be more organized and you don't have to worry about the content uploaded by your friends being drowned because it is preceded by recommended content.
