India is seen as wanting more control over the local economy as well as helping their local device manufacturers. Recently, India is looking at the introduction of a new law, which may ban Chinese manufacturers from selling smartphones for less than 12000 Rupees (~RM670) in India.
With this move, India wants to prevent Chinese manufacturers from selling devices in the low-spec segment. Today, in India, the category is led by manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Realme.
This move will help local brands like Lava and even Micromax in India.
It is also said that Chinese manufacturers sell devices at "loss" prices, leading to unhealthy competition with local manufacturers. And with this change, it will see Chinese-made brands compete only on high- and mid-spec devices.
