Prince Muhammad bin Salman yesterday launched the Rua Al Madinah Project which will develop the area located east of the Prophet's Mosque. Under this project, Madinah will have sufficient capacity to welcome 30 million Umrah pilgrims every year.
The Rua Al Madinah project will have an area of 1.5 million square meters with a built-up floor space of 4.9 million square feet. A total of 47,000 new hotel rooms will be built with a capacity of 149,000 pilgrims per day. A mega project that will also create 93,000 job spaces.
In addition to creating a modern urban area in Medina, this project will also be a template for future development that is modern but also environmentally friendly. It will be built with a wide pedestrian space so that pilgrims can walk comfortably to the Prophet's Mosque. There are special routes for self-driving public transport vehicles and pods.
Rail transport will also be built with underground parking spaces so that vehicles cannot be seen on the side of the road. Along the way there will be a canopy that protects pilgrims from the scorching sun.
Rua Al Madinah is one of the various modernization projects carried out by Saudi Arabia to change the image of the country that is better known as a petroleum producer. The Line project which is the world's largest building, The Rig water theme park and Coral Bloom resort were also announced earlier under Saudi Arabia's 2030 vision.
