Twitter's Ex-Head of Security Claims Security Vulnerability Made User Data Insecure

The former head of Twitter's security department Peiter "Mudge" Zatko today claimed that the social media platform was exposed to a serious security vulnerability that resulted in user data in that. Among his claims is that more than half of Google's employees have access to site controls that could lead to user accounts being taken over.

This is one of the main reasons why several accounts belonging to important world figures with millions of followers were successfully hacked a few years ago to send crypto-buying scams. According to Mudge, executives at Twitter also do not know the actual number of users who are bots.

More troubling, he also said that there are Twitter employees who are actually intelligence agents for foreign countries. This would leave accounts belonging to United States government employees vulnerable to serious security issues. Just last week a former Twitter employee was found guilty of espionage on behalf of the Saudi Arabian government that endangered groups opposed to the rule of Prince Muhammad bin Salman.

Mudge has already submitted a 200-page document of evidence to the SEC, the FTC and the US Department of Justice so that investigations can be carried out on Twitter.

Twitter issued a statement saying Mudge had been fired since last January due to unsatisfactory performance. Although they do not have access to documents that have been handed over to authorities, Twitter said the narrative about privacy and data security that Mudge claims is inconsistent and inaccurate and lacks proper context.
