Apple claims that the competitor's iPhone chip is still struggling to catch up with the performance of the A13 Bionic used in the iPhone 11.
This competitor's chip is not explicitly mentioned, but it seems that Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 can be included in the chip category used by iPhone competitors, because it is used in many Android flagship phones.
There are several Apple claims to the capabilities of this A16 Bionic. Such as focusing on power efficiency, screen, and camera, then the fastest chip for HP, and a CPU that is 40% faster than its competitors.
The A16 Bionic is made using 4nm fabrication, and has 16 billion transistors inside. Previously, this chip was also compared to the A15 Bionic, and it was revealed that the difference in performance was not much, as quoted by us from Phone Arena, Monday (12/9/2022).
A15 Bionic vs A16 Bionic
A15 Bionic A16 Bionic
Geekbench 5 Single-core 1734 1887 (+9%)
Geekbench 5 Multi-core 4818 5455 (+13%)
From the Geekbench score, it can be seen that the difference in CPU performance in the A16 Bionic is not far from its predecessor. However, this performance difference is only significant when compared to Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 vs A16 Bionic
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 A16 Bionic
Geekbench 5 Single-core 1334 1887 (+41%)
Geekbench 5 Multi-core 3737 5455 (+46%)
For information, above is the performance of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 used in the OnePlus 10T. Then the A16 Bionic data comes from pre-release data that has been circulating on Geekbench, because there is currently no iPhone 14 Pro on the market.
From this data, Apple's claim is proven because the difference in CPU performance between the A16 Bionic and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is above 40%.
Specifications of A16 Bionic
The A16 Bionic uses a six-core CPU divided into two fast cores and four energy efficient cores. Similar to the CPU scheme used in the A15 Bionic.
Apple says they are using the new power-efficient cores and claims they consume only a third of the best power-saving cores on the market. This, according to Apple, is what makes the iPhone can have a long battery life even though it is still fast.
The RAM used in the A16 Bionic remains the same as its predecessor, which is 6GB. While the GPU has five cores, the same as the A15 Bionic. This GPU is claimed to have 50% greater memory bandwidth.
While in the Neural Engine sector, Apple claims the A16 Bionic can produce 17 trillion operations per second (TOPS, trillion operations per second). For comparison, the A15 Bionic has a 16-core Neural Engine with 15.8 TOPS capability.
