The Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Series 8 were launched last week as the most advanced smartwatches they've ever produced. But according to a MacRumors report, it still retains the same CPU used in the Series 6 and Series 7 on the S8's latest SiP.
SiP S8 still comes with two CPU cores and storage up to 32GB. Although the same CPU is retained, other changes to the chip to support new sensors are the reason why the SiP is given a new name. Because the same CPU is used, the S8 is still manufactured using 7nm technology.
The use of old chips in smartwatches is common across all manufacturers. The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series for example uses the same Eyxnos W920 chip as the Galaxy Watch4 series. Qualcomm also only updates the Snapdragon Wear chip every two years for Wear OS.
