Artemis I Mission Launch Canceled For Second Time

The launch of the Artemis I mission using the SLS rocket was canceled for the second time recently after a leak was detected in the pipeline that filled the fuel. The decision to cancel the launch of Artemis I was taken about 2.5 hours before it was scheduled by NASA. Previously the mission was aborted on August 29 due to issues with the rocket engine.

Artemis I was supposed to be the first mission to test SLS's ability to send the Orion capsule around the moon before returning to Earth. There is no human crew involved just a dummy with various sensors placed in the Orion capsule. With the launch canceled tonight, NASA will probably try to launch next Monday anyway.

The Artemis mission attempts to return humans to the lunar surface by 2024 with one of the mission's astronauts set to be the first woman. This will open the door to the construction of a base on the surface of the moon to launch a mission to Mars.
